Due to the nature of the business at STRIPPERS and the market sector that responded to it, we became involved with houses from the late 1800s to the mid 1900s. These houses were built with timbers which are now highly valued for their appearance and/or durability. Victorian and Edwardian style houses are still highly appreciated in this day and age. While initially just stripping many architectural items, the company also started buying and selling architectural salvage from the same period, eventually specializing in doors and windows from the Victorian and Edwardian era. It was a relative small and logical step that led to a much deeper involvement with the thought processes of many customers who visited us to see to what extend our stock of old items could be applied to their restoration, renovation, addition or modification project and indeed, increasingly, the construction of complete new houses with our old style, solid wooden doors and windows of incomparable and long-lasting ambience and quality. From there on we have accumulated extensive experience, both first-hand and on behalf of many customers, with the planning and development of alterations to many old dwellings, as well as all facets of the actual practical execution of such plans. This being Cape Town, such experience includes many occurrences which are supposed to be unrepeatable, but remain pitfalls at almost every site. Our company is therefore well placed to be involved with the renovation of old houses in an advisory, inspirational and managerial capacity. Not only with the view to optimize costs, retaining as much as possible of its unique ambience, but also to design and make additions wholly in keeping with the home while introducing light, functionality, space and flow. We can suggest numerous details of a practical, useful and cost effective nature, adding space where needed, as well as modern features in keeping with present day lifestyle and improvements aimed at increasing the overall usefulness and value of the house. Limitations in respect of position, views, natural light, space and budget are recognized and optimized. Our service may consist from practical advise up to project management, depending on requirements and available experience. Contractors and sub-contractors can be recommended, cost evaluations, architectural drawings and contract management can be facilitated or managed.
